The Assignment

Use the PMHNP Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form to complete the following:   

• Rate yourself according to your confidence level performing the skills identified on the Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form.  
• Based on your ratings, summarize your strengths and opportunities for improvement.   
• Based on your self-assessment and theory of nursing practice, develop 3–4 measurable goals and objectives for this practicum experience. Include them on the designated area of the form.

1. Describe three concepts addressed in this course that you believe will have the greatest impact on your practice after you have earned the Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) degree. The concepts can be narrow, for example, the role of the null hypothesis in determining statistical significance. Or the concepts can be broad, for example, the importance of interpreting the clinical significance of findings when considering whether an intervention has a strong potential for making a positive change in the quality of care given to your patients in your setting.
2. Envision implementing practice projects in your setting. Have any practice projects been implemented in your setting or agency? If not, find an article that described in some detail the implementation of a practice change project. To what extent were research results used as the basis for the change? Describe the process and whether the project had a long-term positive effect. What are the facilitators in your setting that will help you implement this important aspect of the nurse with an advanced degree? What are the barriers in your setting to implementing this role?
