Discussion Board (DB) Participation Rubric
Discussion boards (DBs) are what make an online course a course and not an independent study.
DBs are vital to demonstrating that the learner has met the expected course level outcomes.
Collaboration between peers and your instructor in the DB is an important aspect of the online learning experience and is expected in the course.
Any exceptions to the following DB rubric will be at the instructor’s discretion.
The purpose of a DB is to stimulate critical thinking in a scholarly manner.
Critical thinking consists of synthesis, creating solutions, application to real world situations, and testing, debating, and defending evidence-based solutions.
Critical thinking is not repetition of assigned reading material. Outside research of the literature is a vital part of the DB.
Posts need to be substantive. This means that responses such as “I agree” or “great post” do not meet grading rubric requirements.
Initial posts for each discussion question (DQ) is due no later than Saturday of the unit week.
The initial post must be an answer to the DQ topic, not a comment on other posts. Initial posts for each DB must also include a minimum of three peer-reviewed citations.
Citations must include outside sources and no more than one citation from assigned course readings may be used each week.
While the discussion board tool limits the ability to use APA formatting (e.g., hanging indents), posts must include the required elements of an APA in-text citation and list of references.

Collecting, analyzing, interpretating, and presenting data is statistics (Zach, 2022). Understanding your data is key to statistics, not over computing calculations (Holmes et al., 2017). Working on a medical/surgical unit, two different forms of data that I work with are daily blood pressure and temperature checks on my patients to assess their condition and overall health. Temperature checks can alert staff of an indication of infection, and or hypothermia. Blood pressure checks will provide knowledge of hypertension, hypotension, hypervolemia, hypovolemia, and sepsis. The average patient to nurse workload is eight to ten patients per shift. These are both classified as quantitative data related to numerical measurements and values. Blood pressure is usually classified as continuous due to having an infinite number of values within a range with a normal blood pressure of 120/80. Whereas temperatures are discrete due to being measured in finite increments such as tenths of a degree. Temperatures level of measurement is Interval due to being quantitative, can be ordered, meaningful differences between data can be collected and does not have an inherent zero, it is just a position on the scale. Blood pressure is measured on a ratio scale related to the numbers are equal in magnitude and rank on a numerical scale that has an absolute 0. The type of sampling used is cluster due to dividing the population into groups and selecting all the patients in one cluster but not the whole population.

Develop an annotated bibliography related to an area of family nursing research of
interest to you and relevant to nursing practice and your final project (Family Nursing
Project Assignment).
2. Search literature for current (within the past ten years– exceptions can always be made in
dates for seminal articles of critical importance to the topic) research related to a specific
family health experience or family nursing care. Students may select the health care
setting, health condition, and family stage of development.
3. Create an annotated bibliography of a minimum of five research articles. The annotated
bibliography can include literature from related disciplines but should be pertinent to
nursing science. The student will create a summary paragraph listing and describing the
