Health policy help

An advocacy letter is a way to influence the ideas and views of legislators or
decision makers within an organization. It allows the writer to maintain contact
with the legislator or decision maker, to keep the issue high on the priority list when
the writer cannot meet with them personally.

Informed Consent and Cultural Competence

Case Study:Dr. Emily Clark, a seasoned cardiologist at Mercy General Hospital, is presented with a challenging case involving Mr. Rajan Patel, a 58-year-old man who recently immigrated from India. Mr. Patel has been diagnosed with a significant heart condition that requires a surgical procedure. While the surgery has a high success rate, like all medical procedures, it comes with its own set of risks and benefits. Mr. Patel, whose primary language is Gujarati, has limited proficiency in English. He nods and smiles politely during consultations, giving Dr. Clark the impression that he understands. However, when asked to explain the procedure back to her, it becomes evident that he does not fully grasp the intricacies of the surgery or its potential complications. Dr. Clark recognizes the importance of informed consent and wants to ensure that Mr. Patel truly understands the procedure, its risks, and its benefits. She believes in the ethical principle of autonomy, which dictates that every patient has the right to make decisions about their own body and health. However, she also acknowledges the principle of beneficence, which compels her to act in the best interest of her patient.

Conc of Pathophys week 3 discussion

Week 3 Discussion: Myocardial Infarction (MI) (USLOs 1, 2, 3, 4)

You are the nurse caring for a 48-year Leslie Collins, retired army officer for the United States military, He arrives to the emergency department after experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath.  His EKG indicated he had a myocardial infarction (MI). He has a history of hypertension and high cholesterol. He states he used to smoke about 15 years ago, he has no other reported risk factors.

Based on this information, your prior knowledge of this client (refer to medical card from the Collins-Kim family tree interactive), and your knowledge of the pathophysiology of myocardial infarction (MI), respond to the following prompts:

1.

1. Thoroughly explain the pathophysiology of myocardial infarction (MI). Use a
scholarly or
authoritative source to support your answer.

2. Examine each of the following three factors related to this disease process.
Support all three with a scholarly source.
cultural
financial
environmental implications

3. Identify 3-5 priority nursing interventions for the client while in the
emergency department.

4. Describe labs and diagnostic testing you would want to include in client’s plan of care and why. What are critical indicators?
Support with a scholarly source.

5. What members of the interdisciplinary team need to be included for holistic patient-centered care?
Provide a rationale and support with a scholarly source.

WEEK 8 INFO SYST. IN HEALTHCARE POST REPLY

Reflection on AACN Essentials Informatics Self-Assessment

Discussion reply

Hello Dr. G. and Classmates,

I feel I have learned a lot throughout this course! Thank you, Dr. G and to all of my classmates for a great 8 weeks! I feel I am taking a lot of information with me as I prepare to complete my BSN journey in the next 8 weeks! Best of luck to you all, and my wish for you is to be successful and always diligent in your journey, and most importantly use your knowledge to provide the best care possible to all of the patient’s lives you will touch!  Now, to discuss how far we have all come!

My assessment score improved by 5 points! A couple of areas I have noticed improvement in are understanding the importance of having the redesign of workflow and care processes in place before starting care technology. I also realize how important it is not only for the patient, but for us nurses as well, as we are set to a higher standard of care that we must provide for our patients, and understanding what makes that happen is imperative. So, understanding the data from all sources that include technology is necessary to the care we give our patients. I also now realize how important it is for us to be involved in policy and procedure development. We are the eyes and ears of our patients, what we see or hear them say helps us to improve and develop policies and procedures that will assist with providing them optimal care!

I will be able to apply this information to improve patient care by being able to stay up to date on the most recent information and technology, as well as monitor the systems and programs that are already in place and be able to be a part of necessary changes that not only benefit the patient, but us as nurses as well. Ultimately, we will always be looking for ways to improve the care we provide for our patients, but it is necessary to understand how and why. As technology continues to grow and improve continuously, I feel that we must stay on board with the most up to date information and know how to implement it into the care we provide! Thank you all for a great 8 weeks! Best of luck in your future endeavors!

Soap Note about Health of Elderly Adults

How do acute or chronic health conditions impact a healthy individual ?

Response

respond to the discussion using APA format and two scholarly references

The suggested disease in the case study is protein malnutrition. It is a condition where the patient does not have adequate protein intake. Genetic disorders can cause protein malnutrition. For instance, cystic fibrosis can lead to pancreatic insufficiency, limiting the production of digestive enzymes necessary for protein digestion (Montoro-Huguet et al., 2021). Celiac disease can lead to malabsorption of many nutrients. Hartnup can hinder the absorption of Tryptophan, which is necessary for protein synthesis (Schmidt-Kastner & Kravetz, 2022). However, these genetic factors may not be adequate to cause protein malnutrition. Other health conditions and poor dietary intake may also play an important role.

The patient presents with generalized edema of extremities and abdomen due to low levels of albumin (a plasma protein), which causes the leakage of fluids from the blood vessels into the surrounding tissues due to low osmotic pressure. The physiologic response to the stimulus is an attempt for the body to maintain homeostasis amid the lack of adequate protein. The body breaks down muscle tissues to release amino acids necessary for several cellular processes. The process causes muscle wasting and exacerbates protein deficiency.

Liver cells (hepatocytes) are involved in protein malnutrition. Hepatocytes synthesize plasma proteins, including albumin. Due to inadequate protein, these cells do not produce adequate albumin. Therefore, oncotic pressure in the blood vessels decreases, leading to edema (Grüngreiff et al., 2021). Another characteristic that would change the response is gender influence. The female elderly patient may have low levels of estrogen that would cause hormonal imbalance. Therefore, there would be a decrease in muscle mass and protein synthesis, a possible cause of protein malnutrition. The patient’s progesterone levels may also fluctuate due to menopause, leading to poor nutrient intake and loss of appetite. These gender-based factors may cause protein malnutrition.
