Article Critique

article critique

Please write a critique on a given article.

Please follow the rubric.

1.  Is the research study relevant to the study of nursing, (be specific and include examples from the article)?

2.  Is the method/design appropriate in terms of the research question/hypothesis?

What was the research question/hypothesis? Was it clearly stated?

Write how data was collected, method, procedure, sample. also write how data were analyzed.

Key elements are discussed, and identification of items should be included. Provide a description of each of these key elements.

3.      What   is the theoretical context? See chapter 7 in Polit & Beck. The terms   theoretical and conceptual frameworks are used interchangeably. Theories are   used to describe, predict, explain, and to control phenomena.   (Theoria is a Greek Word that means   beholding or speculation).

“Theoretical   frameworks provide the organization for the study. It guides the researcher   in the interpretations of the results. the importance of the theory is   dependent on the degree of research based evidence and level of its theory   development.

There are four levels of theory development

1) factor isolating   (describe phenomena)

2) Factor relating (explain phenomena),

3) Situation   relating (predict the   relationships between/among phenomena),

4) Situation producing (control   phenomena and relationships

**If   your article does not have a theoretical framework what do you suggest based   on Polit & Beck Chapter 7?

 4. Describe the results of the study (identify if they are believable or not)

5.  Are the results significant? In what way-explain use examples?

6.   Are the results transferable? How? Transferability refers to the readers of the research to make connections but invites readers of research to make connections between elements of a study and their own experience. Transferability does not involve broad claims. How does this research apply to YOUR specific practice as a Registered Nurse?

According to Brown (2005), Transferability can be enhanced by providing what is often referred to as thick description (i.e., giving enough detail so the readers can decide for themselves if the results

are transferable to their own contexts).

7.  Implications for nursing practice, be specific how would this study impact nursing practice (use specific examples from the article)?

8.  Implications for future research, be specific and use examples from the article.

The paper shall reflect a scholarly effort; proper grammar, coherence, spelling, and accurately use APA format. Have someone proof read your paper. Read your paper out loud to yourself.

Nursing M3 Assignment

Assignment topic for Communication:

Under the communication topic is the idea of advanced directives. The  advance directive idea has grown from basic forms that can be found in  the state statutes to very refined documents such as Five Wishes or  POLST or MOLST. But to start this topic we can access the Florida State  statutes and see what the State of Florida has to offer as a advance  directive. Here is the direct link to the Florida State Statute 765.101 https://www.caringinfo.org/planning/advance-directives/by-state/florida/

 Links to an external site.

Scroll down to “Download Florida Advance Directive” This will give  you an idea about the contents of the standard State form using the  Florida one as an example. If you list the main parts it will give you  an idea about the types of choices these forms allow for which are not  exactly detailed or extensive in content. Now if you were to open a Five  Wishes form: https://www.fivewishes.org/five-wishes-sample.pdf

Links to an external site. and compare to the earlier State form it becomes obvious the difference.

As a variation on the same theme there is also the POLST form which  also gives several choices as a type of advance directive form. This  will be our discussion for the communication module.

Assignment: Compare  the two methods of Advanced Directives, that is the State of Florida  form with either the Five Wishes or the POLST form and describe the  following:

a) What are the differences between the forms?

b) Why do you think that there are differences between the forms?

c) What is accomplished by the newer generation of advanced directive (eg. Five Wishes or POLST)?

d) Which form would you rather have as a patient? and why?

Your answer should be at least 300 words and have a reference to it.  You should comply with APA 7th ed guidelines and answer all of the  questions clearly and completely.

The questions below should guide your thinking, but feel free to volunteer additional information if you feel it is relevant. You are expected to write a minimum of 200 words for this assignment.

postpartum Depression

Each student will individually write a paper over a relevant maternal-infant nursing topic that is addressed by a Healthy People 2030 objective. Healthy People 2030 objectives are available at

https://health.gov/healthypeople/objectives-and-data/browse-objectives
.The concept chosen must be appropriate and relevant to maternal-infant nursing. The purpose of this assignment is three-fold:  to thoroughly research a topic of interest relating to maternal-infant nursing; to synthesize the information found; and to then draw inferences about the concept.

This paper is expected to be short, succinct, focused, and developed on the chosen topic. The student can adequately address the criteria in
3-5 pages, excluding the title and reference pages. All papers must be typed and in APA 7 format.  I encourage you to meet with Megan Hasler, the School of Nursing's librarian if needed for APA guidance or search questions, etc.

Students are strongly encouraged to send papers to the Writing Center prior to submission.
References must include a minimum of three (3) journal articles, and you may also include an appropriate medical/nursing dictionary or encyclopedia, the course textbook, the state department of health website for vital statistics, the CDC, etc. See evaluation criteria below for specific guidelines, and PDF attachment for a template.

Answer the questions below based on the following case study.

A 26-year-old woman presented to the clinic after her cleaning rituals had so exhausted her that she had given up and could now enter only two of the five rooms in her home. For more than a year she has worried that if her house is not sufficiently clean, her 3-year-old son will become ill and could die. Having touched a surface she has to disinfect it repeatedly – a procedure performed in a particular way and taking several hours. In addition, she repetitively washes her hands and sterilizes all the crockery and cutlery before eating. She realizes that she is ‘going over the top’, but she cannot stop thinking that items may have germs on them. This leads to disabling anxiety and fear for her son’s health, which she can only resolve by cleaning. This helps temporarily, but soon the thoughts return again.

  1. Summarize the clinical case.
  2. What is the DSM 5-TR diagnosis based on the information provided in the case?
  3. Which pharmacological treatment would you prescribe according to the clinical guidelines? Include the rationale for this treatment.
  4. Which non-pharmacological treatment would you prescribe according to the clinical guidelines? Include the rationale for this treatment excluding a psychotherapeutic modality.
  5. Include an assessment of the treatment’s appropriateness, cost, effectiveness, safety, and potential for patient adherence to the chosen medication. Use a local pharmacy to research the cost of the medication and provide the most cost-effective choice for the patient. Use great detail when answering questions 3-5.

Case Study

Read the following case study an answer the reflective questions. Please provide evidence based practice rationals for your answers with scholarly references no older than 5 years APA 7th ed needs to be followed.

CASE STUDY: Albert

Albert Mitchell is a 36-year-old man who will be traveling to Dubai to give a business presentation in 3 months. Although he has traveled widely in the United States as a consultant, this is his first trip to the Middle East.

He requests information regarding immunizations needed before his trip. Albert states that as he will be in Dubai for only a few days, he is unlikely to contract a disease in such a short time and therefore believes that it is illogical to obtain immunizations.

Albert states that he has heard that the side effects of the immunizations might be worse than the diseases they prevent. He is also concerned about leaving his wife at home alone because she is 6 months pregnant.

Reflective Questions

How would you address Albert’s beliefs?

What learning would be needed in each domain?

What learning theories would you consider?

How might his family concerns be addressed?
