INCLUDE 4 SCHOLARLY REFERENCES

To fully complete this case assignment, please read and analyze the assigned case. Be sure to speak in OB language throughout to reflect your knowledge of the terminology and concepts covered this week. Your response must be numbered as outlined below, and provide the following:

1. Situation

In this section of the case analysis, you will focus on identifying situational aspects that have led to the situation being reported in the case. You are to explain the situation in Organizational Behavior terms specific to this week’s material. These aspects should include relevant context, people-related, and organizational factors that have contributed to the current situation. Creating this profile relies on your understanding and application of key concepts, frameworks, and theories contained in the text and other course materials. Please note that the focus of this is to highlight the OB related issues; however, it is understood that other management-related issues may also contribute to the situation. This section MUST explain the situation using terminology and related material from this week’s textbook readings. Remember to cite appropriately.

2. Problem

The situational profile leads to the identification of the major problem in the case. For example, the case may frame the problem as personality and attitude, but the underlying OB problem may relate to organizational structure. Thus, you must analyze the situation deeper to uncover the foundational OB problem. In a case, there may be several problems; however, there is likely only one MAIN problem. All the other factors that appear to be problems are symptoms of the main problem. In this section, you will identify the ONE main problem and explain why it represents that main OB problem in this case. The problem MUST be stated in OB terms. Include specific examples from the case, textbook, and external sources to support your position. Be clear in your statement of the problem.

3. Case Question(s)

Identify the specific questions that must be addressed in order to solve the central problem identified. Think of what you would need to know in order to make a decision on how to solve the problem you have identified. Please note that these questions MUST be related to the problem that you have identified and you must explain why an answer to each question is necessary to solve the problem. What information do you have to know to solve the problem? Questions unrelated to solving the problem or those that are general and not specific to your problem will not meet these criteria. Consider internal and external factors that may have influenced the current situation, whether mentioned in the case or not. Think about the functional information required in order to accurately address the central problem. List each question and explain individually why each question is pivotal to solving the identified problem. Be clear and specific in your answers.

4. Alternative “Solutions” (3)

Present three separate and independent courses of action that could be enacted to solve the problem. For EACH alternative, be sure to explain the course of action, the organizational actors and resources required to complete, the benefits and risks of said action, and how/why the action could potentially solve the problem. Each action MUST solve the specific problem identified, and be independent of the others. Make your case with the support of internal and external sources. Number each alternative solution as 4a, 4b, 4c, etc.

5. Recommend

Identify and recommend the ONE solution out of those identified in item 4 above that is most tenable. You may not offer a combination of the alternatives; only ONE of the alternatives can be selected. Provide evidence to argue in favor of the chosen solution, explaining why this solution is the most tenable compared to the others, and is most appropriate to solve the problem identified. Assume you are presenting your idea to the organizational decision-makers; you want and need their agreement and support. Present a persuasive argument as to why this solution is the best solution for the problem, including support from course material, the field of OB, and other relevant factors as support for your argument. OB language must be used. Thoroughly support your position using internal and external sources.

6. Prediction

Briefly predict and paint a picture of what the situation looks like AFTER implementation of your recommended solution. How would the situation as outlined in your response to number one (above) change? How does the organizational experience change for the actors involved? Please note this is not a conclusion; it is a prediction of what the outcome will be and how the situation will be different after your recommendation

  • A visual representation of the theory (e.g., table, graph, matrix)
  • An explanation on how the theory addresses the literature gaps identified in Week 5
  • A description of how your theory incorporates aspects of systems thinking

Section 5: Empirical Evaluation Plan for a Health Care Administration Leadership Theory (3–4 pages):

You will assess if the newly developed leadership theory addresses the problem you have been working on. What methodological steps will you use? How will you collect data? Suggestion: start with how theories in our text are evaluated. It does not have to be detailed, but it must include the methods, measures, and analytic techniques.

If the Assignments are done correctly, there should be an alignment from the topic of choice to the evaluation:

  • The topic is researched in the literature. The literature review points out a theoretical gap that needs to be addressed by leadership.
  • The gap is turned into a problem statement.
  • A leadership theory to address the problem is proposed.
  • The theory is depicted in a visual.
  • An evaluation plan describes how the newly developed theory resolves the problem identified in the literature.

Section 6: Conclusion (1–2 pages)

  • An APA-formatted reference list of 15–20 peer-reviewed, scholarly journals

Assignment 01: Research Topic Options

HA3300D – Healthcare Policy and Ethics

Assignment 01: Research Topic Options

During this course, you will be working on a research paper to be submitted at the end of Week 11. Your paper will focus on a healthcare management topic that is a source of ethics debates. It should:

1) address the ethical theories or principles that most influence current conversations about this topic.

2) discuss how these ethical theories or principles translate into healthcare policy decisions.

These ethical principles must come from the course readings this is evidence that you understand and have considered materials presented in this course.

Your paper must be 5 APA-style pages (Times New Roman, 12-point font, and with 1″ margins). In addition to these 5 pages, it must also include a “References” page formatted in APA style that includes at least 6 credible sources. You can use the Web, books, journal articles, newspapers, or magazines. Keep in mind that you want good sources for your research ones that are current and credible. During this week, you should begin thinking about a research topic to submit to your professor for approval. You can choose any topic related to healthcare ethics.

Choosing a Topic

You can choose a topic inspired by discussions, short papers, and non-graded activities. Here are a few examples of possible topics:

Should healthcare be universally available in the US? For example, should everyone receive the same quality of health care regardless of their ability to pay?

How should we make decisions about which patients receive high-cost, scarce medical resources such as organ transplant?

cultural diversity and differences in the medical environment

profitability vs. patient care

You may choose to do a paper on another topic, too, as long as it involves policy and ethics in the medical environment.

In choosing your topic, you should consider not only how interesting it is to you, but also how easy it will be to find information about it. You will need to find credible references and refer to them in your paper.

What to Submit for this Assignment

For this assignment, submit a list of 3 topics you are considering for your paper. For each topic:

 1) state what is interesting to you about this topic, and

 2) speculate about which ethical theories or questions are raised by this topic.

Discussion 11

As you embark on the next phase of your journey as a scholar-practitioner in the health care administration program, consider some of the topics and current events addressed in the course by your colleagues. As a future leader in health care administration, how might you work to ensure individuals are afforded the right to be well led and well managed? Additionally, through your work in understanding a value in systems thinking, how might you ensure its proper representation for solutions to health care administration problems?

For this Discussion, select a health care administration leadership issue that interests you as a possible research topic for a dissertation. Additionally, think about how your work completed in this course may assist you in your dissertation and future career as a leader in health care administration.

By Day 3

Post a brief description of the current health care administration leadership issue you selected and explain why that issue interests you. Then, explain two ways the information you gathered in this course can be applied to your future dissertation research or to your role as a scholar-practitioner. Be specific and use examples to illustrate your points.

 Assignment 01.2: Interview Preparation

In the Assignment 04, you will be required to upload your typed notes from the interview. Or, if you are able to make a video of your interview using your phone, you may submit the video instead of your notes.

For this assignment, submit your interview plans to your instructor. In a Word document, give the name and job title of the person you plan to interview, the date and time, and the mode of the interview (phone, Skype, in-person, etc.).

In the same document, list 5-7 questions you plan to ask during the interview. You may select questions from this list of example questions or write your own, but make sure your questions achieve the goal of the interview: to learn how the professional approached the implementation of the new system or computer software, what challenges s/he encountered, and the problem-solving the organization undertook to make the implementation a success.

Discussion 10

Servant leadership is a valuable theory to enact change within society. From Gandhi to Martin Luther King, Jr., servant leadership highlights that a leader’s greatness may depend upon the way in which the leader serves his or her subordinates. With servant leadership, a leader transforms into a guide or teacher for subordinates, in turn creating subordinate autonomy and ownership in work. As a leader, empowering your subordinates and cultivating a vested interest in work might be the most essential components to develop for effective, servant leadership.

For this Discussion, select an event, not previously used in the course, which highlights techniques of servant leadership. For the event, consider whether or not the leadership techniques were effective. Also, consider the possibility of applying another leadership theory to the selected event. How may the outcomes change in relation to the application of a different leadership theory?

By Day 3

Post a brief description of the event you selected. Then, explain whether servant leadership was the most effective leadership perspective in the event you selected. Justify your response. Finally, explain how event outcomes might have been different with another leadership perspective.
